WEIGHT LIFTING
COMPETITION

Rules

Bench Press
 

  1. Contestants will have 3 lifts to lift the maximum amount of weight they can.
  2. Contestants will submit their starting weight for bench press on the registration form.
  3. Contestants will determine weight for 2nd and 3rd lift attempt after all contestant’s complete 1st and 2nd lift respectively. 
  4. The largest amount of weight lifted will be used for scoring.
  5. The following scoring method will be use: amount of weight lifted divided by weight of contest.  Example: John Doe lifted 225lbs and weighs 135lbs his score is 1.666. Jim Smith lifted 315lbs and weighs 225lbs his score is 1.4.  John Doe defeats Jim Smith because his score is larger.
  6. Contestants will have 2 minutes to complete each lift.
  7. Contestants may use the following items: lifting belt, lifting gloves, knee wraps, lifting chalk and a bench shirt.
  8. 3 spotters will be present to ensure the safety of the contestants.
  9. Spotters will be available for a “lift off” if the contestant wishes.
  10. Contestants must lower the weight in a controlled manner.
  11. The bar must touch the chest of the contestant and pause before lifting the bar upward.
  12. Bouncing of the bar off of the chest or not touching the chest will result in a no lift.
  13. Both feet must stay in contract with the floor throughout the lift.
  14. The lower back must stay in contact with the bench throughout the lift.
  15. Elbows must be locked out at the completion of the lift to be counted as a complete lift.
  16. The head official can call any of the above fouls that will result in a no lift.

Squat

  1. Contestants will have 3 lifts to lift the maximum amount of weight they can.
  2. Contestants will submit their starting weight for squat on the registration form.
  3. Contestants will determine weight for 2nd and 3rd lift attempt after all contestant’s complete 1st and 2nd lift respectively. 
  4. The largest amount of weight lifted will be used for scoring.
  5. The following scoring method will be use: amount of weight lifted divided by weight of contest.  Example: John Doe lifted 225lbs and weighs 135lbs his score is 1.666. Jim Smith lifted 315lbs and weighs 225lbs his score is 1.4.  John Doe defeats Jim Smith because his score is larger.

  8. 3 spotters will be present to ensure the safety of the contestants.
  9. Contestants must lower the weight in a controlled manner.
  10. The contestant’s thighs must be parallel to the ground or below and pause before lifting the bar upward.
  11. Knees must be locked out at the completion of the lift to be counted as a complete lift.
  12. The head official can call any of the above fouls that will result in a no lift.
